Someone who deals in shares as their business. A person or organisation that buys and sells shares can be declared by the Receiver of Revenue to be a share dealer - in which case, any capital gains they make on their dealings will be added to their other taxable income. Shares which are held for longer than three years only incur capital gains tax - which for the private investor is effectively about 18%. For this reason, it is wise to think about where a share will be in three years before buying it. Of course, as a share dealer you can deduct any capital losses - so effectively SARS becomes your partner in the share market.
