Companies generally list on the main stock exchange of the country where they have most of their businesses. But as they diversify into other geographies, they often take a second listing in another country. This helps them to raise capital in another country. This can be especially helpful if their secondary listing is in a first world country with a hard currency. On 15th November 2023 the Business Day reported that the JSE was allowing secondary listings of companies listed on the Hong Kong exchange (HKEX) in a bid to increase volumes.
