Definition

The biggest stock exchange in the world, located in New York City with a market capitalisation of about $25 trillion in November 2023. The S&P500 index shows an average of the 500 largest companies trading on Wall Street and is a good way to assess the state of markets world-wide. If the S&P is going up on average then there is a high probability that world markets, including the JSE, are in a bull trend. Most equity markets around the world tend to follow the trends set on the NYSE.
