Definition

National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System. This is an over-the-counter share market in America. It provides a trading platform where mostly technology and communications company shares are traded. The so-called "FANGs" (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google) and many other high-tech shares are listed on the Nasdaq. As an index it is generally more volatile than the S&P500. In 2022 it was heavily impacted by the Federal Reserve Bank's decision to begin raising interest rates aggressively. Consider the chart of the Nasdaq from June 2007 to May 2022:
