The interest rate which banks in South Africa charge each other for funds lent in the open market and it is agreed by the ten largest financial institutions in the country. Following the scandals in the London Interbank offered rate (LIBOR) there have been efforts to replace JIBAR with "Zaronia" - the South African rand overnight index. Zaronia is based on the true cost of overnight loans rather than the expert judgement of participating commercial banks.
