This is the price at which the last transaction of a particular share took place during the trading session being reported on. The uncrossing prices calculated during the closing auction call phase at the end of the trading day become the closing prices for the day. Those prices are then reported by the JSE, newspapers and your software. Your software includes five pieces of data every day for each listed share - the high, the low, the open, the close and the volume traded. The closing price is used in all line charts and is usually the basis of the calculation of indicators like the moving average, the stochastic and the overbought/oversold. Your software includes about 60 different indicators most of which are based on the daily closing prices.
