Definition

A charting method which offers an alternative to the bar chart method of displaying daily weekly or monthly data. This method originated in Japan. The price range between the open and the close is plotted as a narrow rectangle and is referred to as the body. The high and low are plotted as single lines above and below the body and are referred to as shadows. If the close is above the open, the body is green. If the close is below the open, the body is red.
