A number of shares in a company, listed or unlisted held by a person, either natural or juristic. A collection of shareholdings held by one individual/corporate is called a "portfolio". Usually a shareholding is less than 20% of the company's issued share capital and is called an "investment". Holdings above 20% but below 50% are called "associate companies" and holding above 50% are known as "subsidiaries".
