Definition

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">Companies</span> publish a variety of reports on their performance on the <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">Stock Exchange News Service</span> (SENS) and on their websites. Some of these are compulsory, like their <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">interim</span> and <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">final accounts</span> and <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">trading statements</span>. Others are voluntary such as quarterly reports, trading updates, pre-close updates, and operational updates. Voluntary updates will normally be given prior to the end of an interim or final period end and they aim to update <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">investors</span> on <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">production</span>, <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">sales</span>, prices and <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">costs</span>. They do not usually provide the <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">earnings</span> for the period or <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">headline earnings</span>.  </p>
