Companies publish a variety of reports on their performance on the Stock Exchange News Service (SENS) and on their websites. Some of these are compulsory, like their interim and final accounts and trading statements. Others are voluntary such as quarterly reports, trading updates, pre-close updates, and operational updates. Voluntary updates will normally be given prior to the end of an interim or final period end and they aim to update investors on production, sales, prices and costs. They do not usually provide the earnings for the period or headline earnings.
