Previously the 4 Africa Exchange (4AX), the Cape Town Stock Exchange began operations as a South African stock exchange in March 2017. To differentiate itself from the other exchanges operating in South Africa, 4AX offers no minimum fees on trading, a simplified fee structure, the provision of information to shareholders and improved shareholder participation. The Cape Town Stock exchange is licenced for primary listings as well as secondary listings. It has 6 listings - Assupol, CA, Heartwood, Ihealthcare, NWK and Gaia. None of these are listed on the JSE. On 10th December 2021 the CTSE announced that it had listed its first fibre-optic real estate investment trust (REIT), the Giai Fibonacci Fibre REIT.
