Those gaseous emissions which contribute to global warming and climate change by trapping solar energy inside the atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels is the main contributor to these emissions. The burning of natural gas, coal and oil/petroleum products results in carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide entering the atmosphere. Contributors to greenhouse gas emissions are transport (28%), production of electricity (27%), industry (22%), commercial and residential (12,5%) and agriculture (10%). Scope 1 emissions are all emissions which emanate directly from the activities of the organisation. Scope 2 are those emissions which result indirectly as a result of electricity purchased by the organisation. Scope 3 emissions are all other indirect emissions which result from use of the organisation's products - such as the burning of fuel produced by the organisation. For example, approximately 92% of Glencore's carbon footprint relates to the burning of coal by its customers.
