Money held in various accounts by a company where it can only be liquidated after a delay. Thus the money in the company's bank account is immediately availabe, but the company may also have other deposits which are tied up for anything from 7 days to 3 months or invested in relatively liquid assets such as money market accounts or government bonds. These deposits are often described as "near cash" or "cash equivalents" on the balance sheet.
