A candlestick term which refers to the gap between the top of a candle body (either open or close) and the highest point which share reached during the trading day. The length of the upper shadow can be significant because it shows the extent to which bulls pushed the share unsuccessfully during the trading day. A shooting star formation has a very long upper shadow and indicates that the bulls could not overcome the bears and that is bearish for the next day's trade.
