A breakdown of the shares in a sector into separate categories. For example, the mining sector is divided into five sub-sectors - gold, coal, diamonds and gemstones, platinum and precious metals and general mining. The industry classification benchmark (ICB) under which the listed companies of the world are categorised was established in 2005 by Dow Jones and the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE). under the "taxonomy" every listed company is classified into the sector and sub-sector according to the industry which it engages in. On the JSE, the application of this classification system has sometimes led to anomalies where a sub-sector includes only one share. For example, the JSE Beverages sector only has Anheuser Bausch and the Automobile and Parts sector only includes Metair. The shares in their various categories can be seen in the "Market Carpets" feature under "Scans" in your software.
