Shares that have been applied for by members of the public but not yet allocated or allotted. If a share issue is very popular, it can often attract more applications for shares than there are shares available to issue. In that situation share issue is said to be "over-subscribed" and the directors will have to decide on what basis they intend to issue the available scrip. Once the shares are allocated, they become part of the company's issued share capital.
