A government agency which has been distributing social grants to millions people in South Africa every month since 2006. The grants include an old age grant for persons over 60 years old, a child support grant, a foster child care grant, a disability grant and a veterans' grant. In June 2024 the agency reported giving grants to 19,2m people in the various categories. A breakdown of grants paid can be found at:

The objective of these grants is to alleviate extreme poverty. The grant for retired people over 65 is just over R2000 per month. The total cost is a significant item in the government's budget. In total in the 2024 financial year (in the budget) the cost of SASSA grants was expected to be R259,3bn.
