A person (natural or juristic) who owns shares. Shareholders have certain rights - (1) they are entitled to attend and vote at the company's annual general meetings and any special shareholder meetings that it holds. (2) they are entitled to their share of any dividend that is declared by the directors (3) they are entitled to their share of the company's assets on liquidation (4) they are entitled to receive the company's interim and annual financial statements (5) they are entitled to be made the same offer as other shareholders if the comapny is acquired or conducts any other corporate action. A shareholder's ownership of shares is reflected in the company's share register which is an electronic record maintained by STRATE.
