An Act which dealt with the transition from an open-outcry share market with physical share certificates to an electronic market with dematerialised shares held in electronic format by STRATE. This transition took place in the late 1990s and saw an end of the JSE's open-outcry market. Almost all stock exchanges around the world have dematerialised and moved to electronic format - with the notable exception of Wall Street where open outcry still takes place.
