The quantity of a mineral which can be economically and legally extracted from a company's mining area. Reserves are usually proven by drilling exploratory holes and analysing the resultant "core". The proven reserves of a mine gives investors an idea of its remaining life. Obviously, mining companies are always drilling more holes in an effort to increase their proven reserves. For example, Sibanye's Stillwater palladium mine announced that as at 31st December 2019 through drilling at the Blitz Project its proven reserves had been increased by 2 million ounces.
