Definition

<p style="text-align: justify;">The value of a <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">share</span> or other <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">security</span> on an <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">organised exchange</span> in the <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">currency</span> of the country where it is traded. In South Africa the price of shares is always given in cents per share. Every trading day the <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">JSE</span> produces a file of the end-of-day share price data for each listed, quoted share. That file gives the <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">high</span>, <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">low</span>, <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">open</span> and <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">closing price</span>s together with the <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">volume</span> of shares which changed hands during the day. Line <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">chart</span>s generally use the share's daily closing price as the basis for their formulae. </p>
