An additional loan which is secured by the mortgage bond on a property. For people who have a mortgage it is usually fairly easy to obtain an additional mortgage or to extend their existing mortgage. The benefit is that a mortgage advance will typically incur lower interest rates than motor vehicle finance or credit card finance. It therefore often makes sense to pay off other types of loans and consolidate your debt into your bond. Obviously, you must have equity in your bond to do this.
