A security which is traded on an organised exchange. This is a broad term which incorporates all types of securities such as equities, bonds and derivatives. If a security is marketable, it can be easily and quickly bought or sold in a market. Some securities are not marketable - such as the shares of unlisted public companies and we suggest that you stay away from such investments. The marketability of a security is obviously an important consideration for the investor because before they buy a security they want to know that they can sell it easily and quickly when they want to.
