A court order which obliges an employer to deduct money from an employee's salary or wage for payment to a creditor. In South Africa a garnishee order cannot be more than 25% of the employee's salary or wage. In the past garnishee orders have been abused in South Africa, esepcially by microlending companies, with the result that the law surrounding them has been tightened to protect employees.
