An economic indicator which measures the output from manufacturing. Manufacturing production is measured and published monthly. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, manufacturing production in South Africa plummeted 49% in April 2020 compared to a 5,5% slump in March 2020. The figures are compared to manufacturing production for the same month in the previous year. Obviously, if manufacturing production is falling then you can expect employment in the manufacturing sector to decline with knock-on effects on the rest of the economy.
