Those operations which a company intends to continue with. Companies are always concerned with their focus and they tend to sell or discontinue those operations which they consider not to be part of their core business. If a subsidiary or division has been ear-marked for sale or discontinuation, then the financial statements in that year will give earnings figures for the company as a whole and for continuing operations to give shareholders a good understanding of the profitability of the business going forward.
