This is a variation of standard candle stick charts whereby the width of the candle reflects the volume traded on that particular day. The greater the volume, the wider the body of the candle on that day. Obviously, this tends to distort the X-Axis making the chart more difficult to read - so it is wise to look at the normal candle stick chart over the same time period to get a perspective. Consider the example:
You can see here that as the volumes rise (in the volume histogram at the bottom of the chart) so the candles widen - and vice versa.
