<p style="text-align: justify;">In <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">technical analysis</span> when a <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">share</span>'s <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">price</span> cuts up and down through its <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">moving average</span> giving a series of <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">buy signal</span>s and <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">sell signal</span>s at more or less the same price. This happens when the share's price <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">chart</span> is moving <span class="glossary" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; cursor: pointer;">sideways</span>. Moving averages do not work in a sideways market.</p>
