Definition

This index is supposed to contain the 15 largest companies trading on the Alt-X, but at the time of writing only 11 qualified for inclusion and they were dominated by Alphamin with a market capitalisation of R13,4bn, followed by Heriot (R3,46bn) and Jubilee (R3,36bn). The remaining shares include, Copper360, Renergen, Upartners, Transcend, Astoria, Vunani and Workforce. Obviously, these shares are riskier than those on the main board, but sometimes there can be some good buys among them. When considering these shares you should look closely at the average daily volumes traded. Make sure that there is sufficient volume to allow you to sell out on your stop-loss if you need to.
