This is a category of retailers which sell products that have a relatively short sales cycle - like groceries, clothing and small appliances. Typical examples would be Pick 'n Pay, Woolies, Shoprite, Spar and Massmart. This part of retailing is very much a function of consumer spending and fashion. Brand loyalties are entrenched by loyalty programs and there is fierce competition for the consumers' attention. FMCGs were negatively impacted by COVID-19, the civil unrest in July 2021 and the floods in Natal. CA Sales Holdings (CAA) which listed in June 2022 specialises in moving FMCGs in Southern Africa (mostly Botswana) on behalf of manufacturers.
