This is an index produced by Morgan Stanley Capital International covering 23 emerging markets overall indexes. Those countries are Egypt, South Africa, Peru, Turkey, Brazil, India, Thailand, Russia, The UAE, Poland, Malaysia, Columbia, Chile, China, Taiwan, Greece, Czech Republic, Korea, Philippines, Qatar, Hungary, Indonesia and Mexico. The index is adjusted for free-float and weighted for market capitalisation. Emerging markets are considered riskier than first-world countries, but generally offer better returns. This results in funds moving back and forth between emerging markets and first-world markets depending on whether international investment sentiment is "risk-on" or "risk-off". Since mid-2009, the index has been much more volatile than first-world indexes like the S&P500, and it has risen significantly where most first-world markets have been in a sustained bull trend. You can view this index in your software by searching for "I-MSCI".
