Stockbroking firms open accounts for their customers so that they can invest on the JSE. Any funds deposited into such accounts and not used to buy shares must be transferred to the JSE Trustees (Pty) Ltd, which is a private company owned by the JSE and those funds are then invested at a good rate of return. The investor is paid a rate of return - the JSE Trustees Rate - which is a competitive at-call rate of interest.
